When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.
Romans 12 v 13
What is the team for?
We want everyone attending church on a Sunday to feel welcomed and valued. In addition to the service itself, the short time we have together before and after it has ended is an important opportunity for friendship, interaction and the drawing in of new people. The hospitality team facilitate this and so contribute to the family atmosphere of inclusivity we want to create.
What will my role be on the team?
The hospitality team are responsible for all aspects of providing hospitality before and after the service. This will all be done from the same stations in the hall. There will be two tables and your role is to serve coffee, tea and squash. Two people will do this with one ‘runner’ to top up coffee, tidy up etc – of course you are welcome to swap around during the morning if you would like to.
On a Sunday morning you should arrive in good time to set up so drinks can be served from 10am. This ensures that other teams such as Operations can have a coffee, honouring those who have arrived early to set up.
Ten minutes before the end of the service, you should discreetly leave to prepare, so that people can come and take a drink when it finishes. Serve drinks to attendees, being friendly and smiley but not so chatty that other people can’t get through!
You are also responsible for tidying up and ensuring the boxes are left in good order for the week after. Flag to the team lead any shortages that need restocking.
What do I need to consider when joining the team?
This role is a practical one, but you are also representing the church and our values as you serve drinks. It will help to create the culture we want if you are friendly and approachable, greeting everyone who comes over with enthusiasm and kindness.
You will need to keep an eye on the time throughout the morning so that you serve and pack away at the right times. In this role you may encounter or notice people who are new or alone, and you should flag this to the welcome team.
Full training will be provided, with regular updates from the leadership team.
