True, whole prayer is nothing but love.
St Augustine
What is the team for?
Life at times can be difficult and not always go the way we would desire or plan. While we can pray ourselves, sometimes it’s good to have the prayers and support of others. This is what the prayer ministry team will be there for. Also, you’ll be equipped to know how to sign post people on for further help or support if needed.
People come for prayer for all sorts of things: for physical healing, for guidance, for healing from past hurts and traumas and more. Sometimes people ask for prayer for loved ones and illnesses in their families. Others just want to meet afresh with God. Sometimes people come looking for God’s forgiveness and sometimes needing help to forgive others.
What will my role be on the team?
Prayer ministry will be available at every Sunday meeting. You’ll be on a 1 in 3 rota and you’ll have a Prayer Team lanyard to help others identify who to approach for prayer. Have your lanyard ready to put on towards the end of the meeting and head to the designated prayer area to pray with people. There’ll be 2 team members on each week (this may increase as time goes on if the need is there) ready to pray each week, making sure there are always men and women serving.
What do I need to consider when praying for people?
When people come for prayer, ask them their name if you don’t know it and ask them what they need prayer for. Jesus is the only one who can bring true healing, peace and hope in our lives and our aim is that as people come for prayer, they’ll experience His presence and healing, knowing that He loves them and that He is interested in what is happening in their lives.
You’ll want to pray for people as you yourself would like to be prayed for, with compassion, respect, being treated with dignity, making people feel safe and always with confidentially as key.
As well as praying for people, you’ll also need to keep abreast of what activities, ministries, and help is available at church so that you can sign post people on for further help if needed.
