And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Galatians 6 v 9
What is the team for?
When people come to church on a Sunday morning we want them to feel engaged. The production team plays a vital role in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to hear and see everything they need to, whilst allowing those tuning in via the live stream to enjoy the preach and feel connected.
The team plays a vital role in the practical side of Sunday mornings, supporting our preacher, host, worship band, and anyone else who has something to share. Your work makes sure that any distractions or barriers caused by the tech are kept to a minimum, allowing the congregation the opportunity to worship God and for the Holy Spirit to move and work.
What will my role be on the team?
There are 3 main roles within the production team, each detailed below.
- Audio production is an important role that solely dictates what everyone will hear and how well they hear it. Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the worship area is set up ready for when the band arrives, so they can plug in/set up their instruments and warm up straight away, including audible foldback.
- Setting up of other sound equipment (sound desk, speakers, microphones for host/preacher/sharing, audio feed to the live stream etc).
- Leading a sound check with the worship band, host, and preacher, ensuring all levels are at a good volume and the worship band is well mixed through the main speakers and for individual musicians.
- Ensuring the sound throughout the service is as good as it can be at all times, including muting microphones/instruments/effects when they’re not required.
- Visual production is another important role where you will be operating the laptop that controls what everyone sees on the big screen/screens at the front of the room. Responsibilities include:
- Connecting and set up the production laptop to the projector and screen in a way that is visible to everyone in the room and looks aesthetically pleasing (not wonky/blurry).
- Operating EasyWorship (song lyric software) during worship set, and any accompanying slides and videos during the preach and notices.
- Live streaming impacts anyone who is joining our service for the preach via social media. Responsibilities include:
- Connecting and setting up the video camera/s and video desk equipment to capture our preaching area (be mindful preachers have a tendency to not stand still!) trying not to capture the congregation in the shot/s.
- Setting up of live stream laptop including connecting the audio and video feeds.
- Starting the live stream towards the end of the worship set ready for when the preach starts.
- Monitoring the live stream for audio & video quality, and comments from viewers.
- Stopping the feed when preach has finished.
We understand that these 3 roles may look quite daunting at first sight and you may not want to do all 3. That’s fine, we don’t want anyone to feel pressured to serve in areas they don’t want to/aren’t called to. We’d be glad to have you on board for all 3 roles, but equally glad if you only feel comfortable serving in one of the 3 areas.
Full training and support will be given for all of the above roles, and there will always be one other person experienced in that role in the building to help if needed.
Our lovely operations team volunteers will also be on hand to offer support throughout the morning.
At the end of the service you will be responsible for packing away the kit you have been using into its cases/storage solution in a way that keeps it protected from being damaged until the following week.
What do I need to consider when joining the team?
This role is a practical one, but you are also representing the church and our values as you are serving. Whilst you will be focused on the many jobs that need doing, you should be friendly in all your interactions, and sensitive to what is happening — for example, if people are praying after the service, it is fine to work around them as necessary but give space if possible. Bear in mind new people might be unsure about what happens at the end of a service and so if you need to ask them to move, you should do so with kindness.
Full training will be provided, with regular updates from the leadership team.
